Getting Back on Track

The last few months have been a bit crazy, riddled with changes.  Chaz's work schedule changed to days, so getting to the gym has been a bit of a challenge....plus I quit making it a priority, which was not a good choice.  I find that when I am working out, I feel better, physically and mentally, so I'm getting back to it.

Chaz is planning on interviewing for a job around the end of the year and one of the things the company takes into account is its employees' state of health.  Chaz has said he is worried about that being held against him and he would really like the job to be offered to him.  My reply was that he has 6-8 weeks to make a start.  He could easily drop anywhere from 25-50 pounds in that amount of time, depending on how much he works and if ever there was a motivation for getting started with the working out, isn't this it?  He agreed it was.

So we're going to take it a day at a time and see how it goes.  Planning on heading to the gym tomorrow night, thinking we may try a kettlebell workout together.  We haven't worked out a specific schedule yet, but we'll get it figured.

I weighed in at a doctor's appointment yesterday, solidly at 250.  With the way the last few months have gone and the poor choices I've made, especially regarding my diet, I'm pretty satisfied with the fact that I'm no heavier than I was when I originally started out.  However, right now I'm more concerned with how I feel, rather than with a number on the scale.  The goal right now is to get back to feeling more energetic and feeling like I've accomplished something, rather than knocking some numbers off on the scale.  A number is just a number, but how I feel about myself--that's everything.

We'll be checking in soon.  Wish us luck!

Until next time.....

Revamp

Okay, so it's time I got back in the swing of it. I've been going to the gym now, very early in the morning with my awesome friend Michelle for two weeks, and Monday is pay day, so on Monday I will begin the slow changing of my eating habits, starting with breakfast. Starting weight 213 (still 3 pounds down from my original start!) Goal: 145 Timeline: 1 year How am I going to do it? Well, I already started. After my last attempt which ended when I injured my back and got depressed because I had to cut my workout way down, then school started, so I had to go back to work and didn't have the time..... I decided to do the discipline thing and get up early. I was lucky enough to have a friend close by who is willing to get up at 5am (earlier on Mondays and Wednesdays) and hit the gym with me M-F. We do spin classes on Monday/Wednesday and Bodyflow class, which is a mix of Ti-Chi and Yoga, on Tuesday/Thursday, Fridays is a free for all workout day to do whatever we feel we need to do that week. And since I am two weeks into this, I'm already waking up without my alarm and I feel like the habit is formed. That moves me into phase two of the process: Food. I love food. I love greasy, sugary, fried, baked, sauced and gravied food. So this is where it gets really tough for me. Since willpower is a finite resource, I'm going to try starting small, but changing my eating habits one meal at a time. Starting with Breakfast. I'm thinking oatmeal and a banana. Yep. And two weeks from Monday, it will be time to focus on lunch. I am honestly probably not going to touch dinner until the first of the year, after all the holidays are passed, because I'm a bit weak when it comes to holiday food, I'm just going to go for portion control for that, but two week after I makeover my lunch, I'll do a snack overhaul. I think this a great plan, and I think I have set a reasonable goal for being down to my ideal weight in 1 year, which would be mid-September of 2013. Look for a weekly update from me on here, instead of a daily one, since I have a a ton to do in my day, but I'm back in the saddle and feeling really good about my choices and goals :)
