Ow.

Headed off to the gym this morning.  Got there and climbed onto an elliptical with all the enthusiasm in the world.  30 seconds later: Ow, holy effing s**t, this hurts, why the hell did I think this was a good idea?

I haven't been on an elliptical in a while, so I forgot the ridiculous quad workout you get when you're on one.  Usually this wouldn't be a problem, but I've been incorporating my Jillian Michaels DVD into my workouts (I did it last night) and it works your quads hard.  So my quads were already hurting before I even got the gym...and then I got on the elliptical and my quads were like, "Geez, what did we ever do to you to make us hate us so?"  Not fun.  But I, in all my stubborn pride, did not want to get off the elliptical 30 seconds after getting on, especially in front of all the other people working out who are all in much better shape than I am.  So I suffered through 10 minutes before hightailing it to the treadmill.  If you get off in 30 seconds, people think you're a quitter.  If you get off after 10 minutes, you can at least pretend people are thinking that you did a nice warm-up.  :P

After the horrible elliptical encounter, I did 20 minutes on the treadmill at 3.2mph, followed by a short cool-down in the pool, which was lovely.

All in all, I'd say it was a successful day.  Now I just have to find the energy to get some other stuff done today.

Until next time....

  1. if it hurts, it's ok to get off, it's better to get off and risk looking bad than to do yourself an injury, you know the difference between the good ouch and the bad ouch, so just be careful!

Great job on sticking with it, so proud of you!
